Why Personal Vows on your wedding day might just be the best decision

Personal Vows are becoming much more popular for couples, and this blog is here to give you inspiration on why we think they're amazing to have.

If you have opted for a videographer, then personal vows are perfect to have because they give the videographer beautiful audio to work with for your cinematic film. Not only that, but it will be meaningful and romantic words from both of you as a couple, and what's better than that?

Couples are also looking for ways to make their ceremony more unique to them, and personal vows are a lovely option, especially if you're having a registrar ceremony. There's much more choice and flexibility in a celebrant ceremony, but if you want to do the legal 'i-do's then and there, then a registrar ceremony with personal vows is a nice meet in the middle. Your registrar will give you time for this and discuss when you will share your vows.

You might feel that reading out your personal vows to each other in front of everyone might feel too much, but remember that everyone is there for you both and to celebrate your relationship. Lean into the emotion, the real moment, because after all, isn't that what weddings are for? To declare our love for someone in front of everyone officially?

If you really, really don't want to do them in front of everyone, then you can do private vows with each other during your couples portraits. We get that sometimes, it does just feel too much for some couples, but some still really want to do it. So if that's you, then make time for it together. This can be filmed or not. It depends on how private you want it to be.

We will often use personal vows in our videos because they bring that emotional, romantic feel to your films. It's the little words that create a unique quality to our films, and also make it feel that extra bit more personal for you.

You don't need to make your vows really long, and you can also include things that only your partner will understand. Just because you're reading your vows out in front of everyone doesn't mean everyone needs to understand them.

Remember that your ceremony and, in turn, personal vows are being photographed and filmed. So think of a nice way of presenting them that's not on your phone or a little bit of paper. You don't have to be super fancy about it, but a simple way of presenting them that's easily accessible will make it feel more important to you.

You can also use things you love as inspiration, such as books, poems, music or anything that helps you find the words you want to say. Sometimes people feel personal vows need to come solely from you, but sometimes it's hearing a song, reading a chapter in your book or seeing words written down that evoke the feeling of love you have for your partner. Don't be afraid to lean on the things that remind you of how much you love your person.

Key things to take away are not to worry about anyone else on your day and to focus on each other. Your ceremony and wedding are for you, and if you want to do personal vows, then you can make the time and space for it during your ceremony or outside of it. We will absolutely encourage you to do it, and there have been plenty of times when we've sat at home re-listening to your ceremony as we edit it, and get a bit teary!
